Eldur is the city located at the north-most tip of the island. Eldur cats are one of the smallest cats among the cities, having less muscle mass than some of the other felines.
However, they are some of the smartest cats in the land, having adapted to working smarter rather than harder. Eldur relies heavily on the goods and trading of the other cities and the guild, valuing inter-city connectedness. They are excellent at working in teams to get more difficult jobs done and aren’t embarrassed when it comes to asking for help if needed. |

Leadership
Eldur is lead by two separate positions, each being equally important to Eldur's function. These two positions are known as the Phoenix and the Fire. Eldur previously ran as a monarchy, but when the Phoenix Gunvald was appointed as heir, and assumed the throne, he decided to create a new rank to balance out positions of power in Eldur, and appointed his brother, Salomon, as the first Fire.

Healing
The role of a healer in Eldur is very traditional; the healer focuses on their studies of herb knowledge and healing rather than fighting or hunting. Eldur can have up to three healers, and any can take on a novice at any time, creating a total of six healers if all three appoint themselves an apprentice. All healers work together, meaning their is no official head healer (or torch) of Eldur. If there is a unofficial head healer, they're typically the eldest as they are more respected and well-known in the city.
While the healers all work together, they do have their own separate, personal tents. But as all healers are trained together, it is not uncommon or unheard of that some may choose to sleep in the same tent, and view each other as close friends or family.
Housing
Eldur utilizes both tents and the various caves and tunnels located throughout their home. Both tents and caves can be used for either housing or work. Caves are often covered in pelts and lit by torchlight during the nighttime.
Tents are built utilizing animal pelts and twigs to create tightly woven, insulated housing. The floors are covered with animal hides then animal pelts and furs are spread out to create bedding.
Eldur cats live in family housing. Here they live with their close family and give birth and raise any kittens. After kittens reach adulthood they may move out and make their own den whenever they would like. This can be either in a tent or a cave, depending on the family’s preference.
During the day when parents are busy, kittens are often brought to a large den called The Kindle, where kittens may socialize with one another. This is a large tent, scattered with plenty of comfortable fur and animal pelts. Oftentimes mothers will accompany the kittens as well to keep an eye on them!

Trading
Eldur heavily relies on trade with the other cities; not known for their hunting or fighting prowess. As a merchant city, their common wares are metal and jewelry related, due to their heavy focus on mining. During the plague, Eldur cats struggled as the borders were quickly closed, severely affected by the lack of communication and trading that resorted. The plague caused many lives to be lost due to starvation, and quickly caused inner-wars to erupt in the city.
Education
Eldur holds a coming of age ceremony for all kittens who have reached the age of six cycles. This ceremony is of great importance towards the cats of Eldur, and is typically held in a large, open cave with sizeable cavity's in the ceiling, allowing the night sky to be seen. It is held in this cave due to the large openings above, which they believe allows their gods to watch the ceremony and choose the kitten's fate. As this city largely trusts in fate, they believe that the gods will choose your rank, deciding your fate as an Eldur feline. They expect everyone who receives their rank to excel in that class, regardless of any physical hinderances.
The children participating in the ceremony will know about it before-hand, typically have a Eldur feline seek them out when it's time. Usually, the character finding them is a family member or close friend. Then, they make their way to the ceremony, hosted in Wyrd cave. A healer, typically the eldest of the healers, will then make a speech to the kittens, informing them that their ceremony is underway. A bonfire will be lit as a sign towards their gods that it's time for them to decide the kitten's fate. Then, the kittens will make their way up to the eldest of healers, and choose a single wooden card. When they reveal their card it will have one of four symbols carved into it:
The carved symbol of flames
An engraving of a single eye
The chiseled cut of a sword
One etched drawing of a heart

Raising Children
Parents are a team in raising their kittens. It is both parent's responsibility to take care and watch their kittens, and the parents often take shifts watching their young to ensure their safety and care. However, if both parents need to continue their duties or want their child to be socialized with other kittens, they may allow the Kindle to watch over their children. The Kindle is where the majority of kittens spend their days, and if orphaned, they typically have two care-takers there to watch over the orphaned and the kittens who are staying for the day. To the orphaned, the kindle is their home. However, the orphaned children don't have to remain in the Kindle, as they can be adopted by any feline who lives in Eldur, even if just for a day.
A Union of Souls
When two or more cats have fallen in love and wish to be united and recognized as a pair by their city, they may present themselves to the healers and Phoenix as one. They will then have a bonfire and a ceremony for their union, celebrating life and rejoicing in their combined livelihoods. Paint, jewelry, and silks are usually adorned on the newly-wedded, and all invited will dress in accordance. However, paint is only adorned on the ones the ceremony is for. A feast and dance will commonly be held, celebrating their wedding.
The Beginning
When a child is born, Eldur's Phoenix, Fire, and Healers will prepare a visit with the family to give their children their blessings of good will and health. In the evening, a torch will then be lit in front of the families house for each kitten, signifying that Eldur recognizes their existence in this world and reaccepts them into the city, welcoming them as an Eldur citizen. As the smoke rises into the sky, Eldur believes it alerts their gods to the new life, and allows them to locate the children to pass their blessings onto them. These torches are allowed to have their flames die, and the torches are then kept by the kittens until they pass.
The End
As age creeps onto a feline, they are encouraged to retire as an elder of Eldur. By the age of seventy-one cycles, they are pushed to retire as an Elder and spend their days in rest. The Phoenix and the Fire will recognize the cat's service to Eldur, and thank them for their contributions to the city. They are then told to rest and heal their physical or spiritual wounds, and spend their last cycles in content and peace. The newly made elder is then welcomed into the elders tent or may choose to remain in their own.
Renewal and Rebirth
The Phoenix, or Bennu, is a mythical, sacred fire bird with red and gold feathers, linked with the sun, creation, and rebirth. Eldur felines believe in the Phoenix and it's a sacred symbol towards the city, hence the title the Phoenix of Eldur and the Fire of Eldur. They believe that life is but a cycle of death and rebirth, and that all who pass will return.
"And just as the Phoenix rose from the ashes, she too will rise. Returning from the flames, clothed in nothing but her strength, more beautiful than ever before."
When a feline of Eldur passes, The Phoenix, Fire, and the Torches of Eldur will all paint themselves with reddish-gold paint, as well as those close to them and the family of the deceased. The paint style varies per feline, but it all typically mimics the appearance of a phoenix and fire. Once the ceremony begins, the body of the passed will be brought forth in the dead of night, and placed upon a bed filled with items they possessed while they were alive. Their loved ones will slowly say their goodbyes, and typically give a farewell speech reminiscing about the good memories they experienced with the one who passed.
Then, the ceremony reaches its climax. A torch is placed upon the bed, usually placed by loved ones. The fire will slowly creep upon the body and burn it, till nothing but ashes remain. As the ashes climb into the sky, freeing the deceased spirit from their body, the Eldur cats may say their final goodbyes and prayers for their soul to have a safe journey to Valhalla or Hels fields, and that they are greeted in cheer before they are reborn as Eldur again.

- Newly born kittens of Eldur will have torches lit for them, signifying their existence in the city. That torch is theirs to keep until it is burned with their soul and taken with them to the heavens.
- Eldur felines often use fire-related and heat-related terms to describe the felines in their city. Some examples would be sparks, flickers, coal-for-brains, phoenix heart, etc.
- The rank of the Fire was created by Gunvald, who wanted to remove the hierarchy system to balance out the power a sole ruler would have.
- Gunvald was overthrown by Salomon; due to Salomon disagreeing with Gunvald feeding the elders before the young. Salomon lost his daughter, Tove, due to starvation, and many other young followed her passing. Spurring Salomon into action as he started a war, gathering supporters and overthrowing Gunvald.
- Eldur heavily relies on trade with the other cities, often traveling to each city for trading wares.
